Canadian Government finally lifts travel restrictions
Today the Government of Canada announced the removal of all COVID-19 entry restrictions, as well as testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada, effective October 1, 2022.
Here is what you need to know..
Effective October 1, 2022, all travellers, regardless of citizenship, will no longer have to:
submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app or website;
provide proof of vaccination;
undergo pre- or on-arrival testing;
carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation;
monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving to Canada.
Transport Canada is also removing existing travel requirements. As of October 1, 2022, travellers will no longer be required to:
undergo health checks for travel on air and rail; or
wear masks on planes and trains.
I’m so grateful to all those , especially ACTA and the Canadian Round Table who campaigned vigorously for the removal of the crippling restrictions holding back travel recovery. Most of the campaigning and lobbying was done behind the scenes and I was blown away at the sheer enormity of the work involved to try to help us.
On behalf of all of us in the travel industry I would like to thank all those involved and am delighted with today’s news.

As you know last year at New Year Keith and I got stuck in “ship jail” on a cruise so I am delighted to say that cruise measures are also being lifted, and travellers will no longer be required to have pre-board tests, be vaccinated, or use ArriveCAN. A set of guidelines will remain to protect passengers and crew, which will align with the approach used in the United States.
Please remember that there may be different restrictions remaining in other parts of the world such as some countries in Asia and Australasia so before you travel make sure you check the travel restrictions for the countries you will travel to and also those you will transit through.
Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said "Thanks largely to Canadians who have rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated, we have reached the point where we can safely lift the sanitary measures at the border,”
He continued , “However, we expect COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses will continue to circulate over the cold months, so I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses and exercise individual public health measures. I also thank the dedicated public health officers and frontline staff at our land borders and airports who have worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of people in Canada for the last two years."
For now we see this as a huge win and it has certainly been a long time coming!
